SABORES
SABORES came from a need to stop spiraling. A need to focus on what was in my control. To not let the anger and sadness keep me in freeze mode. To not surrender my power to news of the ice raids, the violence, the hatred. To not allow it to stop me from helping in ANY way I could. This is what Sanará Mañana is supposed to be about, love in action.
SABORES was originally going to be a quick sale but I led with my passion and love for cultura, and I made a whole mini collection. Help is needed in every corner right now and choosing a cause doesn’t make the others less in need. What we can do with the privilege we have, if we have it, is leverage it in a way where we are able to help community. Whatever that looks like.
SABORES is a shout out to some of the classic fruta flavors you find with Latino street vendors, drawing mostly from my Mexican culture. Be it the fruta itself con limon y chilito, aguas, raspados, or paletas. Furthermore it’s an appreciation of the hard ass work street vending is, the importance of street vendors to our cultures and communities, and the crucial role it plays in providing a livelihood for a lot of immigrants. Hence why some need the funds to be able to provide for themselves and their families while these ice raids are happening. If you want and are able to support directly please do so.
Unintentionally, working on this collection helped me let loose and be able to practice my skills. Selling to make a living is something that will take getting used to. Selling for a cause allowed me to work without so much fear.
I hope y’all love this collection as much as I do. I know it’s near and dear to A LOT of us. My skills aren’t perfect but I’m getting better with each piece I make. I’m still exploring my style and look forward to the collections after my residency.
los quiero un chin!
